After a brief period working as a personal assistant at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park (then owned by Trusthouse Forte), I trained as a journalist with The Caterer. I spent more than 25 years writing about hospitality and was most recently editor of The Caterer magazine, where I worked for 27 years, latterly overseeing its digital edition, daily online content, the group’s other market products, such as the Acorn Awards, the Cateys and Hotelier of the Year, in addition to the market-leading, weekly title.
Today, I run my own business offering editorial services and advising operators on PR, marketing and communications, and careers.
I am also a founder of Sauce Intelligence, a new hotel and restaurant consultancy – created in partnership with industry influencers Giovanna Grossi, Jo Barnes and Nicky Hancock – which offers mystery guest audits and training solutions for hospitality businesses and specialises in mentoring and inspiring team members.
I am honoured to chair Hospitality Action’s national fundraising and marketing communications committee, am a passionate trustee of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts’ Adopt-A-School charity, and am privileged to work as a non-executive director alongside the team of hotel, restaurant and facilities management recruitment specialists Cartwheel Recruitment.
